Acknowledgements

Finnish citizens can be awarded honorary titles in public recognition of their services to society. The total number of honorary titles is approximately one hundred.Honorary titles are awarded by the President of the Republic. 

Decorations are awarded by the various orders in question. Organisations and enterprises in the administrative branch of the Prime Minister's Office may submit proposals to the Prime Minister's Office for decorations belonging to the orders of the White Rose of Finland and the Lion of Finland, which are awarded to citizens of Finland on Independence Day, 6 December.

State funerals are currently organised, or paid for from state funds, for deceased presidents only. In exceptional cases, the Government may decide to organise or finance a state funeral for a very long-term Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament or a person of special national prominence, such as the winner of a Nobel Prize.
