Prime Minister Juha Sipilä met the President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto in Mexico City

Prime Minister Juha Sipilä met the President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto on Wednesday, 12 October during his visit to Mexico. The leaders stated that relations between the two countries are excellent and noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship that launched diplomatic relations between Finland and Mexico.

Prime Minister Sipilä and President Peña Nieto discussed relations between Finland and Mexico, and the deepening of economic cooperation between the two countries. The leaders also discussed the situation in Latin America, Europe and Syria.

Sipilä and Peña Nieto hoped that trade relations between Finland and Mexico would be intensified. Prime Minister Sipilä stated that Finland is following with interest the major reforms in the telecommunications, energy and education sectors being implemented by the Government of Mexico.

-       These reforms make Mexico, with its population of 122 million people, an increasingly interesting market for Finnish actors. Significant new business opportunities will become available to Finnish companies – opportunities worth grasping. Doors will be opened for Finnish companies during this visit, Prime Minister Sipilä said.

The Prime Minister is accompanied in Mexico by a Team Finland business delegation made up especially of telecommunications companies. Tomorrow, Thursday, the Prime Minister will address a telecommunications conference in Mexico City.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will also meet Secretary of Finance and Public Credit José Antonio Meade Kuribreña, Secretary of Communications and Transport Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Secretary of National Defense Salvador Cienfuegos Zepeda and Mexican business leaders.
