Representatives of the Member States of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) framework gave their vocal support to its work and continuance. The representatives gathered in Bratislava on 22 September.

“COST cooperation is and has been very important in strengthening research networks across Europe and enhancing the quality of research. COST and Horizon 2020, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, complement each other perfectly. COST funding provides a very practical means of increasing interaction between national programmes in Member States and research teams,” says Under-Secretary of State Petri Peltonen of The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

Peltonen led the Finnish delegation at the Bratislava Ministerial Conference.

Finland is among the most active COST Member States. We participate in almost 300 European research networks.

“Finland encourages the European Commission to maintain its financial and other support for COST activities, including after Horizon 2020 in the following framework programme,” Peltonen says.

COST Member States include EU Member States and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey, and Israel as a Cooperating State.
