On Friday 17 June, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed Finland's participation in certain international crisis management operations.

In response to France's request for assistance dating to November 2015, Finland will expand its participation in the UN's UNIFIL operation in Lebanon by around 160 soldiers between 1 April 2017 and 31 August 2018. Finland will replace a French company from the operation's Force Commander Reserve.

Finland’s participation in the EU's military crisis management operation EUNAVFOR Atalanta will end by the end of the year and in the UN's Military Observer Group (UNMOGIP) by 1 March 2017. Finland has participated in the UNMOGIP, which supervises the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, since 1961. Finland has been part of the EUNAVFOR Atalanta operation, which serves to prevent and repress acts of piracy and armed robbery off the Somali coast, since 2008.

The President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy finalised the Government Report on Foreign and Security Policy, which will be submitted to Parliament once it has been endorsed in government plenary session. The meeting also addressed Finland's preparation for the Warsaw NATO Summit in July.
