Prime Minister Juha Sipilä expressed his condolences on behalf of the Finnish Government to Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy of Spain.

Finland strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Barcelona on Thursday and the attempted attacks. The Government and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs are monitoring the situation closely.

‘I offer my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The Government has followed closely the terrorist attack at La Rambla, a part of Barcelona that is familiar to many Finns too. In spite of the horrible shock, the values of open society, democracy and tolerance must not be compromised. We stand together in the fight against terrorism,’ says Prime Minister Sipilä.

So far the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is not aware of any Finnish citizens who might have been among the victims or the injured.
