Prime Minister of Latvia to visit Finland

The Prime Minister of Latvia Māris Kučinskis will visit Helsinki on Friday 12 May on invitation by Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.

On the agenda in the discussions are bilateral relations, regional cooperation and topical EU affairs. Topics relating to regional cooperation include Nordic-Baltic cooperation, Arctic questions and options for implementing the EU’s climate and energy objectives. Discussions on the European Union will focus on the Brexit negotiations and developing the EU’s defence cooperation.

The visit on Friday will start with the planting of a Spruce of the Future in Paloheinä, Helsinki. The symbolic event is part of Finland’s 100th anniversary celebrations, with the Mayor of Helsinki Jussi Pajunen and Maria Lohela, Speaker of the Parliament of Finland, also present. Latvia will celebrate its 100th anniversary of independence in 2018.
