Finland underscores significance of artificial intelligence in EU's industrial policy discussions
EU's Competiveness Council meets in Brussels 30.11 – 1.12.2017. Finland is represented at the meeting by Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä. The Council will be addressing matters related to the internal market and industry, and current research and space matters.
Regarding internal market matters, the ministers will be endeavouring to arrive at a overall view concerning the proposal for the regulation on the digital gateway. According to the proposal, the Commission and the competent authorities would establish a Single Digital Gateway, bringing together the online services provided by the Commission, EU agencies, and the Member States for enterprises and citizens.
The industrial part will continue to address the matter of modernisation of European industrial policy, which is of current interest. Finland wants to promote a bold and forward-looking industrial policy, and one which ensures the long-term competitiveness of Europe's industrial sector and that takes into account the challenges of the future.
– In the discussions to be held at the ministerial meeting, Finland will be underscoring especially the significance of digitisation as a competitiveness factor for industry. There is a need in Europe to invest more in the potential offered by artificial intelligence and data, says Minister of Economic Affairs Lintilä.
In space matters, the ministers will be discussing the interim assessment of the Copernicus Programme and the future actions to be implemented in the EU's space programme. Finland regards the European Space Programme to be a significant step forward in enhancing the competitiveness of the European space sector and in maximizing the benefits of space within society.
– The space sector offers numerous business opportunities in which Finland holds a pioneering position, Lintilä points out.
