European Commission Vice-President Jyrki Katainen visits Helsinki on 17 and 18 November, where he will meet Prime Minister Juha Sipilä. At the Commission Vice-President Katainen is responsible for jobs, growth, investment and competitiveness.

In their meeting, Prime Minister Sipilä and Vice-President Katainen will discuss the EU trade policy, deepening the internal market and the EU budget. Extending the term of the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) is also on the agenda.

Finland is pursuing the deepening of the internal market, particularly with respect to services, capital markets and energy as well as strengthening the digital economy. For the internal market to work properly, efficient implementation of the legislation and the decisions taken is needed. In terms of the European investment programme, Finland considers that a thorough assessment of the achievements of the fund should be conducted before any decisions on the extension of the term are made. The priorities for Finland include bringing down the barriers to investment and promoting private investments.

Besides the economic issues, Katainen and Sipilä will also discuss the EU's common defence policy.
