Prime Minister Juha Sipilä will attend the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Brussels on Friday 24 November. In connection with the meeting Prime Minister Sipilä will also have bilateral talks with the President of Ukraine Petro Porošenko.

In the summit the heads of state or government will discuss the achievements and future objectives of the Partnership. Besides the EU Member States, the Eastern Partner countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine will attend the summit.

In the summit 20 key targets, or deliverables, are to be adopted for future cooperation. The targets are based on the four priority areas agreed in the Riga summit in 2015: stronger economy, stronger governance, stronger society, and stronger connectivity between the EU and partners, in particular in the transport and energy sectors. In the implementation of all 20 deliverables the focus is also on equality, civil society and strategic communication.

The achievements of the Eastern Partnership include visa liberalisation with Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, increased student exchange, promoting economic cooperation, and programmes for specific sectors in support of reforms in the countries.

On the agenda of the summit is also the signing of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between the EU and Armenia.
