Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen and the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Europe Leo Docherty will meet in Helsinki on Wednesday 28 September. Finland and the United Kingdom enjoy close and active bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of defence cooperation and trade. Finland’s membership in NATO will further increase this cooperation. The ministers will also have a discussion on the post-Brexit relationship between the EU and the UK. They will discuss the importance of the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement and subsequent Trade and Cooperation Agreement in ensuring smooth, well-functioning cooperation.

The ministers will also discuss the consequences of Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Both Finland and the UK have stressed the importance of providing determined and continuous support to Ukraine in its defence against Russia’s illegal invasion, in line with the principles enshrined in the UN Charter.

While in Finland, Minister Docherty will also meet with senior public officials and with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Parliament.
