SET-Plan Conference: Exploring ways to speed up development and deployment of low-carbon technologies, Helsinki 13–15 November

Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union will organise the annual SET-Plan Conference in Finlandia Hall on 13–15 November 2019. The aim of this event is to speed up the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies. The conference will be opened by Prime Minister Antti Rinne. Around 450 decision-makers, researchers, entrepreneurs and stakeholders’ representatives from all over Europe are expected to attend.

In addition to Prime Minister Rinne, speakers at the conference will include Martin Pei, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of SSAB and Petteri Taalas, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization. The two-day conference will feature keynote speeches and presentations by some 50 experts on a wide variety of topics.

The meeting will focus on improving the competitiveness of European industry through energy sector research and innovation. The topics of the various sessions will include industrial carbon dioxide emissions, coupling between energy sectors and developments in renewable energy. The conference will also address low-carbon technologies, innovations in nuclear energy, and the role of women in the energy sector and in promoting clean energy.

Organised in Finland for the first time, the 13th SET-Plan Conference will bring together decision-makers, researchers and stakeholders to assess progress made in achieving the goals of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan. The event will kick off on 13 November with an afternoon visit to several energy technology sites. The official conference will start in Finlandia Hall on 14 November at 9.00 and end on 15 November at 14.00.

The aim of the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan) is to speed up the transition of the European energy system and to promote the development and deployment of low-carbon technologies. The aim is to bring to market new low-carbon energy technologies offering consumers affordable and sustainable clean energy.

The conference will be organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in cooperation with VTT Technical Research Center of Finland, Business Finland and the European Commission.
