In a video meeting on Wednesday 24 June, Prime Minister Sanna Marin and Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg discussed the COVID-19 situation and cooperation between Finland and Norway, the Nordic countries and the international community.

Prime Ministers Marin and Solberg discussed the actions taken in their countries to mitigate the COVID-19 crisis, security of supply and issues related to the opening of borders. The Prime Ministers also confirmed the objective of intensifying security and defence cooperation between Norway and Finland and the Nordic countries.

They highlighted the importance of Nordic cooperation in the areas of green growth, digitalisation and strengthening democracy. Finland will promote these themes next year during its Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The Prime Ministers also underlined the significance of efforts to strengthen the UN, which is the cornerstone of the multilateral order. Prime Minister Marin congratulated Norway, which has just been elected as a member of the UN Security Council for 2021–2022.
