Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will lead a trade mission to the United States on 10–16 January, 2019. The purpose of the trade mission is to promote the interests of Finnish companies in the field of maritime industry and autonomous and intelligent transport systems and services. The Minister will be accompanied by a large business delegation.

The Minister will also meet representatives of the United States administration to discuss current business, industrial and economic policy issues.

During his visit, Minister Lintilä will have an opportunity to learn about the growth business activities of the City of New York and the United Nations’ public procurement activities. Finland’s trade with UN organisations amounts to approximately 10 million US dollars per year.

“Finland’s share of the UN organisations’ procurement is 0.05 per cent, which is far too low. We can do better than that,” Minister Lintilä says.

The United States’ own public procurement activities will also be discussed.

During Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which will commence in six months, security and the external dimension of the European Union’s competitiveness will be the key themes. It is important to establish and maintain lines of communication with the US administration, both by the political leadership and opinion-makers in business and industry. These goals will be high on the agenda during the trip to the capital city, Washington, D.C.

This visit by the Minister of Economic Affairs builds on Prime Minister Juha Sipilä’s visit to the United States in November 2018.
