Finnish government and the European Commission meet in Helsinki

The president and members of the European Commission will meet the ministers of the Finnish government in Helsinki on 4–5 July. The meeting between the European Commission and the government of the country holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union is a traditional opening event for each presidency and its objective is to prepare cooperation between the Commission and the presidency.

The Commission’s visit will start on Thursday evening, when the members of the Commission meet the Finnish ministers over a dinner at the Prime Minister’s official residence Kesäranta. On Friday, Prime Minister Antti Rinne and President of the Commission Jean-Claude Juncker will have a meeting between them, while other members of the Commission and the Finnish government will meet in three groups. These sessions will be followed by a meeting between all the ministers and commissioners.

After the meetings, Prime Minister Rinne and President of the Commission Juncker will hold a press conference, which will be webcast live.
Later on Friday, the Commissioners will have lunch, hosted by the President of the Republic, followed by a visit to the Finnish Parliament.
