President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discuss situation in Middle East and topical issues related to NATO’s deterrence and defence
In their meeting on Friday 19 April, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the situation in the Middle East, especially the strike launched on Iran early this morning.
Prime Minister Orpo and European Commission President von der Leyen visit Finland’s eastern border
On Friday 19 April, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen paid a visit to the Imatra border crossing point to learn more about the situation at Finland’s eastern border. From there, they headed to the Old Town Hall in Lappeenranta, where they continued the bilateral discussions they had started the day before on their flight from Brussels after the special European Council.
EU pledges to boost competitiveness and deepen single market
The European Union will develop its long-term competitiveness and modernise its single market. The EU leaders also plan to simplify the Union’s capital markets. These are among the objectives decided on at the special European Council in Brussels on Thursday 18 April. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.
