Maritime policy financing

Financial support may be granted to maritime policy measures on the basis of a use plan endorsed by the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Prime Minister’s Office has made decisions on the 2016-2020 multiannual plan on the use of the Integrated Maritime Policy funds and for the 2016-2017 and 2018 plans under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.

In Finland a total of EUR 10.65 million granted from the EU and national funds may be used for maritime policy projects in 2015–2023. EUR 9.85 million of this will be used in Mainland Finland.

Themes in allocating national maritime policy funding

National maritime policy funding is allocated under several themes.


Maritime policy projects

According to the section on maritime policy in the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Operational Programme for Finland 2014–2020 under the EMFF, the aim is to improve the protection of the marine environment and create conditions for diverse and sustainable utilisation of marine natural resources.


EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy

The aim of the Integrated Maritime Policy of the EU is to develop a more systematic approach to maritime affairs and enhance coordination between different policy sectors.
