Financing of maritime policy

Part of the funding from the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFF) will be allocated to the implementation of the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy. The funding will be used for actions to strengthen the sustainable management of the seas and oceans by promoting maritime expertise, maritime surveillance and cooperation between national coast guards. These measures will be funded in Finland based on a plan approved by the Prime Minister’s Office. The plan is being drawn up by a steering group consisting of representatives from the ministries responsible for maritime affairs.

Preparations for the new programming period of the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFF) for 2021–2027 are currently under way. Finland’s programme for the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund was adopted by the Government in February 2022 and submitted to the European Commission for approval. The first round of applications for funding was launched in March 2022. The goal is to open a call for applications for the remaining measures once the Commission has approved Finland’s programme.

In Finland, EUR 140,318,962 in funding is available from the programme for 2021–2027, including EU and national funding (from the state and the Government of Åland).
