Prime Minister Juha Sipilä will take part in the annual forum of the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region which will be held in Stockholm on 8 November 2016. In conjunction with the forum, Prime Minister Sipilä will hold bilateral discussions with the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven.

This year's forum will focus on a vision for the Baltic Sea Region in 2030. Prime Minister Sipilä will speak at the opening session of the forum. The annual forum was launched to monitor and improve the implementation of the Baltic Sea strategy. The European Union adopted the strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, which is the first macro-regional strategy in Europe, in 2009. Its objectives are to save the Baltic Sea, connect the region, and increase prosperity.

At their meeting, Prime Ministers Sipilä and Löfven will discuss foreign and security policy cooperation between Finland and Sweden, topical EU issues and questions of bioeconomy. During his visit Prime Minister Sipilä will also meet European Commissioner for Regional policy Corina Crețu.

Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications Anne Berner will attend the forum on 9 November. She will take part in a seminar on sustainability of the shipping industry and in a discussion on the forms of cooperation in promoting the European TEN-T core network with regard to the Baltic Sea Region countries.

During her visit to Stockholm, Minister Berner will also attend the meetings of Nordic transport ministers and the Nordic Council. The ministerial meeting will focus on the transport policy priorities of the Nordic Council and of each country. It will also outline the state of transport networks in 2050.
