Minister for European Affairs Tuppurainen to European Parliament plenary session

Minister for European Affairs Tytti Tuppurainen will attend the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 22–23 October. The agenda items include climate crisis and ecological emergency, opening of accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania, and search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean. Minister Tuppurainen will also deputise for the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in the discussion on external relations.

On 22 October, Minister Tuppurainen will visit the Conference of Committee Chairs of the European Parliament, where the minister and committee chairs will discuss the priorities of the Finnish Presidency. The Conference of Committee Chairs is composed of all chairs of the standing parliamentary committees or sub-committees. Its mission is to coordinate the work of the committees and ensure the smooth cooperation between them.

In the European Parliament Minister Tuppurainen will represent the Council of the European Union, where Finland holds the Presidency from July to December 2019. The Presidency of the Council of the European Union takes part in the inter-institutional dialogue with the Members of the European Parliament and the Commissioners and speaks for the Council in the plenary session of the European Parliament.
