Euro country leaders exchanged views on Greece at a Euro Summit held on Monday evening, 22 June.

“We had a discussion that clarified the situation and created a basis for further negotiations. A solution with Greece must be reached in the coming days,” stated Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.

The second Greek adjustment programme ends on 30 June. By then, Greece must implement economic and structural reforms required by the euro countries as a condition for payment to Greece of a final tranche instalment of EUR 7.2 billion. Greece has not, however, made the promised reforms.

“Finland can accept an extension of the current programme allowing Greece to receive its tranche  instalment if the Greek Government and the Parliament commit immediately in a credible way to implement the programme in the manner agreed in February. Finland also requires that the International Monetary Fund IMF remain in the programme,” said Prime Minister Sipilä.

The euro countries hold the unanimous view that the reform policy line agreed with Greece must be complied with as a condition for the payment of the final loan instalment.
